The Local Trust was established as a fund of the National Lottery to help 150 areas across England that registered high on the index of deprivation. Each area has received a grant of £1million to be spent over 10 years.  In January 2012 it was announced that one of those areas was Conniburrow. Residents were invited to come together to determine what could be done and who could administer the grant on behalf of the estate. A key principle was that only residents could decide how the money was to be spent.

A steering group was formed with the task of surveying the community to discover what they would like to do with the money and formulate a 10-year plan.  In 2012 & 2013 a series of events, such as a fun day, talent show, family and food days, were held to publicise Big Local Conniburrow. 330 responses were received.  The plan was approved by the Local Trust and the Big Local Partnership formed by residents to fulfil the plan.
